What Should I Do About Loose Fibers on a Felted Pet Portrait?
WoolFuriend’s Care Instructions say that stray fuzzy fibers may be gently snipped with scissors, and advise not to pull them. If you are not sure a fiber is truly stray—or it appears connected to a marking, face, paw, or other detail—leave it in place and contact WoolFuriend before trimming.
Felted pieces are handmade, and a short care note cannot identify every fiber on every sculpture. Use the instructions for your piece and avoid turning a small question into a larger cut.
Before you trim, take a moment to look
- Set the piece on a stable surface in good light.
- Look at the fiber without tugging or brushing it. Ask whether it is clearly a single fuzzy strand outside the shape, or whether it seems to connect to a colored patch, facial detail, or other feature.
- If it is clearly stray fuzz, follow the care page: snip it gently with scissors. Do not pull it.
- If you are uncertain, or the area looks changed or damaged, stop and ask before using scissors. A clear photo can help explain what you are seeing; contacting us does not guarantee a repair or a particular outcome.
What not to do
- Do not pull at the fiber.
- Do not cut into the sculpture’s outline or a detail to make the surface look uniform.
- Do not use water or sprays; WoolFuriend’s care instructions say to dust gently with a soft makeup brush or paintbrush and use no water or sprays.
- Do not treat an uncertain change as a routine trim. Ask first.
Keep the care instructions with your keepsake
